Content with Jesus

God calls us to be content. We are invited to delight in His presence and share in His divine contentment. Psalm 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (niv). Delighting in God is to know God. The definition of content in the Merriam-Webster dictionary is “pleased and satisfied with what one has: not disposed to complain.” I love how it is defined as both pleased and satisfied which means if we are content, we are happy with our current situaion with what we have, not wanting more. As I look aroung my house, I see so much evidence of discontent. So many possessions, so many clothes, multiple duplicates of the same items, more items than I could ever possibly use. Was I not content with just one item of the same thing? Why did I feel I needed many items of the same thing? These are questions I am asking myself as I try to understand being content and not wanting all these possessions and so that I quit seeking after possessions, and instead seek only after Jesus. My goal with this blog is to create a life for myself that is content, one that shows I can be entirely content with Jesus and need nothing more than Him, as long as my basic needs are met as far as a roof over my head, clothing to wear, and food to eat. I want nothing more than Jesus and for Him alone to satisfy my soul. I want to use this blog to help others do the same. Let’s start by asking for Jesus’ help and guidance and let’s declutter our homes, making space for a life content with Jesus alone.
